When it comes to pool construction, people have questions in the difference between shotcrete swimming pool construction and gunite swimming pool construction. While they are both concrete based applications, the process for each construction style is different.
In shotcrete swimming pool construction, concrete, or in rare instances mortar, is transported through a pressure hose and pneumatically projected onto a surface at a high velocity. Using the shotcrete process, the force at which the concrete is projected from the nozzle means compaction and placement occur at the same time. It can be embedded onto any surface, with overhead and vertical areas included.
Gunite swimming pool construction is a dry mix process, wherein the concrete is in a dry state when it is blown through the hose, then the nozzle injects water onto the concrete directly before the application. Using gunite allows a pool to be designed and shaped into any style that someone prefers.
In shotcrete swimming pool construction, steel is used to reinforce the shape of the pool, helping to hold the shotcrete structure of the pool together. A single piece shotcrete shell is formed for the pool, and the final shape of the pool is trimmed out by the workers. The tile and coping around the pool then has to be installed. The waterproofing surface, which is normally plaster, will then be applied after the surface has been prepared and cleaned. After this is done the final steps of the construction of the pool can be completed, such as installing pumps and filters, electrical work, deck installation, and the starting up of the filtration equipment.
In gunite swimming pool construction, you can have your pool shaped any way you like. Once deciding on a shape, a wooden frame is normally used to outline the shape of the pool. Once the homeowner confirms that the outline is correct for the shape they requested, a steel rebar is used to hold the shape into place. The gunite is then power sprayed into the pool and is what actually makes the pool. Plumbing fittings are then installed, and colorful pebbles, stone, or even mosaic tiles can be added to give the pool the look that is wanted. The pools floor and walls then get installed.
Homeowners who have a specific vision of their pool that requires a special shape are more likely to use gunite swimming pool construction. This process is more conducive to adding things such as designs or colors to a pool. Gunite accommodates itself exceptionally well to free-form pools, steps and decks.
While both shotcrete swimming pool construction and gunite swimming pool construction use concrete to form the pool, it is the way that it is applied that is the difference in their processes. Which process is the best depends on the individual and their plans for the design of the pool.
Why Winter Is The Best Time Of Year To Buy A Swimming Pool
The blissful memories of the summer seem to fade as cold weather approaches, but it’s not too soon to be thinking about the next chance for fun in the sun activities. In fact, few people realize that the best time of year to purchase concrete swimming pools or fiberglass swimming pools is indeed during the winter. Not only is it the best time to purchase, but the colder weather is often the most appropriate time to have the exciting new addition installed. Although it may seem to defy logic in the minds of most consumers, there are several reasons why the winter months can prove to be the more preferable choice.
Swimming pool prices are often much lower during the colder months due to the decreased demand, and the savings can be much more than most people think. Many pool equipment suppliers make the majority of their revenue during the summer and are forced to either creatively increase sales or reduce their workforce during the off season. As a result, most companies are willing to make much less profit on each sale in an effort to keep everything moving throughout the year. There are also commonly older models that must be cleared from the inventory before new units can be ordered and stocked.
Finding swimming pool contractors willing to install pools during the winter months is an incredibly easy task. Similar to the pool manufacturers and suppliers, installers often experience a drastic decrease in the amount of jobs available during the winter. As a result, swimming pool contractors often charge much less during the off season in order to entice potential clients to utilize their company. The competition for available work is greatly increased during the off season as well, so it is often possible to obtain a great deal when shopping around and comparing estimates.
The quality of work done during the winter time is often top notch due to the fact that there is no unnecessary rush to complete the job. Swimming pool contractors are more apt to spend their time and perform the install at their own pace. Hasty work can result in expensive errors and unsightly mistakes, so many clients prefer their installers to do it right the first time even if it takes a little longer.
The workers that actually install concrete swimming pools or fiberglass swimming pools often seem to be much happier during the colder months. The intensive work required in completing the install is only complicated by summer heat and humidity. Colder weather installs are much safer and don’t require the same considerations and safety precautions as a hot weather job.
Nothing can help chase away the cold weather blues better than planning for and purchasing a swimming pool to enjoy during the upcoming summer and many years to come. The task of designing and selecting the appropriate swimming pool can be very time consuming, but the good news is that there are many more resources available to a homeowner during the winter.
It can be said that swimming pools in Florida are becoming more a necessity than a luxury. When you ask yourself, “do I want a swimming pool or do I need a swimming pool,” your answer may likely be yes to both. The reason for this is because, like the rest of the country, Florida temperatures seem to be on the rise, and it is nearly impossible to enjoy a summer day without the comfort of a pool.
Although the cost of building a swimming pool will only increase the value of your home on average less than 10%, there are many other reasons besides resale value for making the decision to build a pool. A swimming pool provides a place for the whole family to hang out and have fun, get in some exercise, or just get away from the heat and humidity. It is also a great gathering spot to entertain extended family and guests.
Once you’ve made the decision to build a swimming pool, your next step is finding a reputable swimming pool contractor who can provide you with the best pool to fit within your budget. With today’s average price of a swimming pool starting at anywhere from $17,000 to $50,000, and some custom designs at the high end costing over $100,000 or more, it is important to shop around to find a swimming pool contractor who can give you the best quality at the best price. Unless you have a builder in mind who comes highly recommended by friends or family, it is a good idea to meet with several swimming pool contractors before hiring the one who will build your dream pool.
Building materials are another consideration in figuring out what type of pool you can afford. On the low end of the price range are the pre-formed fiberglass pools which fit down into a hole dug in your yard and can be up and running within a few days. Other, more expensive pools require excavation of your yard and construction of a steel or concrete base which is then covered with vinyl, or a concrete base covered with gunite.
There are many options for building swimming pools in Florida and making the decision to build one of your very own is the first step in providing your family with a great way to spend those hot sticky months of summer in cool, refreshing comfort.
Can Concrete Pools Improve The Value Of Your Home?
If you take on projects around the home, you can definitely increase its value. One of the best investments you can make is to install a concrete pool. This will no doubt improve the value of your home. Not only is a concrete pool something that you and your loved ones can take advantage of during the summer and on hot days, but it’s something that can make everything from investing in a second mortgage to selling your home that much more fruitful. The following are just some of the many reasons behind why concrete pools improve the value of a person’s home.
A concrete pool is a major investment: not only is it one of the most valuable pools out there, but it is something that will take a great deal of construction, planning, and money to install. After all, this is a pool that is in-the-ground: You have to not only dig in your yard but will also have to pour concrete. The time it takes to install such a pool is definitely worth it because it can add a lot of value to your home. After all, the more work you put into your home and the more work you put into the pool, the higher each will be worth.
Concrete pools are seen as solid investments because they are something made to last. Not only this, but they are something that people of all ages and backgrounds can use. For example, newlyweds are sure to enjoy this feature to a home because it means more fun and entertaining options. Additionally, large families are sure to enjoy having a concrete pool because it ensures hours upon hours of entertainment for parents, their children, and the rest of the family. Thus, by adding concrete pools to a home, the home then becomes that much more valuable because it makes it alluring to all types of people and families. Thus, adding a pool broadens the market for your home if you ever choose to sell it.
And of course, if you live in a warm area of the world, it pays to invest in a concrete pool because this makes daily life that much easier. Thus, if you are considering selling your home or using your home as collateral on a loan, investing in a pool is a smart idea in such climates. In fact, it can add thousands of dollars to the value of your home, especially if you invest in a pool that is made to last. Always take the time to look into the demands of local buyers when upgrading your home or taking on projects like a pool. This way, you can be sure that your home is worth as much as possible so that you and your family can continue to prosper.
Swimming Pool Contractors Florida – Every year, thousands of people choose to enhance their properties and homes with private swimming pool access. The idea of owning one’s own swimming pool is a dream for many people, loaded with options and decisions to make. One of the most important choices that a person will make when deciding to install a pool is the swimming pool contractor. This is the person that can not only impact the upfront costs of the pool installation, but can also affect the ongoing repair and upkeep expenditures if the original installation was done poorly.
When looking at swimming pool contractors, there are several questions that should be asked before beginning a project. The first and most obvious question has to do with experience and the contractor’s portfolio. Most homeowners have an idea of what their pool should look like before ever consulting with a contractor. A good swimming pool contractor should have credentials and experience that reflect good customer service and quality work.
Swimming pool contractors are in a risky line of work, as property damage can occur in the pool installation process. It is important to find out all of the legalities involved with a particular contractor. He or she should have proper insurance coverage for damages to the property, along with a legal permit for the pool installation as well. Without these two things, the installation process can be much more expensive than the original estimates project.
Price and warranty are among some of the most important issues to inquire about when consulting with possible pool contractors. The price should include everything up front, with no hidden fees or additions to be surprised with later. Also, the contractor should provide a company warranty in writing with clear guidelines and expiration dates. A good contractor will insure his or her own work.
Installing a pool is an exciting time in a homeowner’s life and has the ability to improve not only property value, but also memories to last a lifetime. Being sure to choose the right swimming pool contractor will assure that the dream of owning a pool doesn’t turn into a nightmare.

RATED (5 stars) by JSPOTACUS on May-01-2011
Top of the Line - Highly Recommended February 2011: I could have given 4 stars to Pool Captains avoiding the tendency to vote to extremes, however, extremes are needed when speaking of this business and their service to us. They had a difficult job to do, working with 2 other contractors, and performed in an exemplary fashion. I would recommend their services to anyone seeking to put in a pool, decking, and landscaping. They "took care of us" and we are extremely grateful. Our little oasis brings us pleasure each and every day. Judy & Shery

Top of the Line - Highly Recommended We interviewed several pool contractors and looked at each builders work. Pool Captain's, Adam and Rachel, displayed the best product and the best price. There were no hidden or unexpected costs. Everything was detailed from the beginning and followed the plan for construction. We are extremely happy with the pool, deck and enclosure as well as some remodeling work that was done to tie the project together. All the craftsmen were very skilled in their field.
Thin pavers are the most cost effective, permanent solution to remodel your pool deck on the market today. The reason pavers are considered a permanent solution is due to the inherent durability of the product and the fact that they are not actually adhered to the existing surface, but instead float above the deck. Even tile, which will be adhered to the surface, will end up cracking over time as that surface fails beneath. Any product, for that matter, which is adhered to the existing surface, be it cool deck, tile, paint, acrylic sprays, river rock, flagstone, or stamped concrete will end up cracking over time.
Cooking on the grill is a great way to entertain company or just feed the family without heating up the kitchen. But scurrying back and forth from the kitchen to the patio can get old. Make grilling easier and more pleasant by putting together an outdoor kitchen. Even the simplest of setups can make outdoor cooking more efficient, and the fanciest ones mean you will not have to go back inside until bedtime.
