Pool chlorine is about 10%, where home use chlorine bleach is about 4%. I always used liquid since the powder and tablets left a sand like grit on the bottom of the pool.
I always use “tricloro” which is the tablet stuff. I use 1″ tabs in a floating feeder and it is probably the easiest and best of all the clorinating products. I also keep some granulated stuff for occasional superclorinating. The liquid stuff is the worst of all the clorinating products. It is weak and not stabilized. Of the two granulated types the “dicloro” is the better of the two. There are many, many websites that explain all of the chemistry in detail. I recommend you do a web search and read up on it.
By the way, I have never had any grit left behind from the chlorine tablets as the above poster has.
there is dichlor, trichlor, liquid, calcium hypochlorite, bromine to name a few….a salt chlorine generator produces pure chlorine with no need to shock…I have two for sale below wholesale at this link: http://www.swimming-pool-information.com/discount-pool-spa-equipment.html
For sanitizing, I’d use the tri-chlor tablets. For your weekly shock, a cal hypo or a di-chlor. There are some good multi-purpose di-chlor shocks on the market.
i own a pool company and i recommend that you buy your chemicals from a pool store they can give the best idea.also when you add chems to pool take out floater for a few minutes as tablets and shock are made different and could cause a fire. after a few minutes wait okay to put floater back in chems at home depot, walmart, and hardware stores dont last as long.chems should be checked at least once a week in winter more offten in summer
